Doctor: No, Mama, Charley is a boy’s name, and you expressly wanted a daughter.
Charley: I did?
Doctor: Oh yes! When you first gave birth, out popped a boy. And you took one look and said, No, it’s not a son I want, not a son. And you pushed him right back inside. And you said, Don’t you even think of coming out again until you’re a daughter! It’s a daughter I want! And you only let me out when I’d become the daughter you needed.Charley: It’s time I died, then.

I completely forgot this entire part. I remembered Scherzo was mindfucky and disturbing and creepy, but that was regarding the Sound, and various body horror. This bit is just hilarious surreal, and I’d totally forgotten. But at least it provides some levity to an otherwise extremely dark story.
